Glass artist, designer, businessman * 1846 in Nancy (FR), +1904 in Nancy

Through his family, Émile Gallé came into contact with the arts and crafts early in Nancy. After studying philosophy, botany, zoology and mineralogy in Weimar (DE), he designed his first masterpieces with sensual and poetic expression in the glass factory in Meisenthal (FR) from 1866 to 1870. Back in Nancy, the versatile Gallé experimented with new techniques and built workshops for glass, wood and faience. He went on educational trips to Berlin, for example, opened sales outlets in Paris, Frankfurt and London and continued to cooperate with Meisenthal.

Émile Gallé, who is celebrated at world exhibitions, is considered the founder of French Art Nouveau or Art Nouveau, which deals with the world of shapes and colors in nature. In 1901 Gallé founded the with other Art Nouveau artists (including Daum and Lalique) Ecole de Nancy , which, among other things, drove artistically inspired manufacture production.

Prostřednictvím své rodiny přišel Émile Gallé do kontaktu s uměním a řemesly na začátku Nancy. Po studiu filozofie, botaniky, zoologie a mineralogie ve Weimaru (DE) navrhl v letech 1866–1870 ve sklárně v Meisenthal (FR) svá první mistrovská díla se smyslným a poetickým výrazem. Po návratu do Nancy všestranný Gallé experimentoval s novými technikami a vybudoval dílny pro sklo, dřevo a fajáns. Absolvoval například vzdělávací cesty do Berlína, otevřel prodejní místa v Paříži, Frankfurtu a Londýně a pokračoval ve spolupráci s Meisenthal.

Émile Gallé, který je oslavován na světových výstavách, je považován za zakladatele francouzské secese nebo secese, která se zabývá světem tvarů a barev v přírodě. V roce 1901 založil Gallé spolu s dalšími secesními umělci (včetně Daum a Lalique) Ecole de Nancy , který mimo jiné řídil umělecky inspirovanou výrobu.

Durch seine Familie kam Émile Gallé in Nancy früh in Berührung mit dem Kunstgewerbe. Nach dem Studium der Philosophie, Botanik, Zoologie und Mineralogie in Weimar (DE) entwarf er von 1866 bis 1870 in der Glasmanufaktur von Meisenthal (FR) seine ersten Meisterwerke mit sinnlich-poetischem Ausdruck. Zurück in Nancy experimentierte der vielseitig begabte Gallé mit neuen Techniken und baute Werkstätten für Glas, Holz und Fayencen. Er unternahm Bildungsreisen z.B. nach Berlin, eröffnete Verkaufsstellen in Paris, Frankfurt und London und kooperierte weiter mit Meisenthal.

Der auf Weltausstellungen gefeierte Émile Gallé gilt als Begründer des französischen Jugendstils bzw. Art Nouveau, der sich mit der Form- und Farbenwelt der Natur auseinandersetzt. 1901 gründete Gallé mit anderen Art-Nouveau-Künstlern (darunter Daum und Lalique) die École de Nancy, die unter anderem künstlerisch inspirierte Manufakturproduktion vorantrieb.
