Focus: Scandinavian design

Scandinavian design is valued internationally and admired for its aesthetics.

The difficult living conditions of the agrarian society at the beginning of the 20th century. influenced the political aspiration of Danish and Scandinavian design to improve everyday life with simple but well-made products. Design ideas were driven by the need to balance arts and crafts with the demands of industrial mass production.

The demand for handmade designer glasses continues even after the traditional glass industry has ceased. Production takes place abroad, but also in Danish studio glass workshops. The combination of material, craftsmanship and art on Bornholm results in cooperation, for example between glass makers and chefs for table service in exclusive restaurants.
